Why We Do It

We believe that stories connect us. A well-told story can help your brand or idea stand out and get noticed. And sometimes a story can change the world.

We're all about creating great stories through video, but we're more than a video production company because we also help our clients with video strategy and creative. Meanwhile, most advertising agencies try to do it all. That's not us, either. We are a video agency, and we focus on creating and commercials & branded video content that helps companies get results.

How We Do It

We're total nerds about all things story, from Aristotle to Joseph Campbell. To us, every brand is on its own Hero's Journey, and we always save the cat. And don't get us started about the craft and technology of filmmaking unless you want to stay up all night talking 4K, anamorphic bokeh, CGI/VFX, and classic movies.

You know that table of super-cool kids in high school lunch? We were the other ones. The ones obsessed with the deep tracks from 20-year-old albums. The ones who directed and wrote the school play, but usually didn't land the lead role. The ones who crashed the talent show with loud alt-punk music that made the prom queen cry. We've always been about keeping it real.

And we're all about access and transparency: when you work with us, you get direct access to our creative team and real talk about budgets and scheduling. Life's too short for less.

What We Do

PluckyStudios is a video agency that makes award-winning, results-getting commercials, branded video content, and high-end corporate films. We work with a lot of financial services and fintech companies, and we work with a variety of other kinds of brands, nonprofits, and educational institutions to tell their stories.

We recently undertook a commercial film project with them for a major US-based financial institution. Being a London-based agency we had limited contacts in the US, and took the decision to work direct with a US-based production team, rather than work via a UK studio - knowing this would be more beneficial to our budget. Having gone through a cost & feasibility process with potential suppliers we finally selected Patrick's team - not only due to his costs, but also his creds, ‘can do’ attitude & wealth of experience.

After extensive & well managed pre-production we arrived on set in midtown Manhattan for the shoot comforted by the sight of a full & experienced production crew.

The shoot itself was professionally managed, executed & completed – all with Patrick himself at the helm. Post production - including sound, motion graphics & music - was managed quickly & efficiently (albeit tricky due to multiple client stakeholders).

For us, Patrick was the perfect partner for our project – he is truly passionate about film, and fully understands all the processes within. He is also trustworthy & reliable – which was hugely important to us being overseas and working with significant clients. We are looking forward to future US-based productions, so we get the opportunity to work with Patrick and his team again.

Our History

Once upon a time, our founding partner designed and built websites for a living while making short films and mobisodes (short videos for your mobile phone, it was a thing). One day a guy called and said he'd been watching them, and asked if he could do a TV commercial for his company.

A few years later, Patrick Ortman had become an award-winning bicoastal filmmaker with offices in New York City and Los Angeles. His eponymous production company was getting some very interesting clients, and one day he formed a collective of plucky and creative visonaries to help take things to the next level. PluckyStudios was born.
